“… CHILDREN OF WRATH, …”

“It’s a girl!” or “It’s a boy!” begin some birth announcements in the newspapers (Family notices). I am looking at one announcement now which even has a little image of balloons.

In his letter to the saints who live in Ephesus the apostle Paul is writing, “and [we] were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.” – Ephesians 2:3 (Authorized Version) Another translation says, “Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.” (NIV)

The apostle Paul says here two things in few words:

1. All humans are under the wrath of God.

2. All humans are under the wrath of God by nature.

That means that we are born “by nature the children of wrath”.

I don’t think we would ever find a birth notice which would say this:

We want to announce the birth of a child of wrath.

But that is the truth!

Earthquake

Finished reading the book "In Praise of our Post Office" by Fiona Craig

Finished reading the book “In Praise of our Post Office” by Fiona Craig

Not long ago I was thinking how good it is that the north of New Zealand, where I live, is not known to have a history of earthquakes.

So it was a real surprise to read in the book “In Praise of Our Post Office” by Fiona Craig about the earthquake of 1963 in Whangaroa, not far from Kaitaia, where I live now.

I am living in New Zealand since the end of 1979!

Being happy and Well-being

"HAPPINESS IS AN INSIDE JOB"

“HAPPINESS IS AN INSIDE JOB”

When I read today about being happy and well-being in the book called “God’s way of Reconciliation” (Studies in Ephesians 2) by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, I did not only remember all the things I have read about the subject happiness and the subject Wellbeing, but also all the things I have written already about the two subjects.

Please write happy or happiness and well-being or wellbeing into the Search box and read the posts already on this blog!

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says that we are dependent upon God and that our well-being depends on our realisation of that. Only God is self-existent, we are dependent beings and we are only happy when we are in correspondence with God and when we are obedient to God.

I have actually experienced that!

THE CROSS

THE CROSS

“For love

Song of Songs 8:6-7

Intr.:

is

1.  as strong as death,

2.  its jealousy unyielding as the grave.

3.  It burns like blazing fire,

4.  like a mighty flame.

5.  Many waters cannot quench love;

6.  rivers cannot wash it away.

7.  If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned.”
