ASKING AND HAVING

ASKING AND HAVING (James 4:2)

Honestly, I was not going to think about the answer to prayer I received lately too much any more, but reading the Bible verse Psalm 34:17 in the local paper today, changed my mind. (The Northland Age, Tuesday, May 24, 2016).

Psalm 34:17 says: “The LORD hears his people, when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.”

I had “trouble” finding a certain Bible verse. Thinking the verse is in the Gospels, and making every effort to find the verse there, but not finding it, led to some frustration.

Thinking the Lord knows that I am looking for that particular verse, I left it like that … until I got really desperate and called to Him for help and found the portion of Scripture, I was looking for, straight away in the book of Acts.

Here are the verses, which are very important to me at the present time.

Acts 12:21-23 tells us that Herod did not give praise to God and was eaten by worms.

I am glad that the Lord changed my mind and made me see the importance of the answer to that particular prayer, and I hope this post is a blessing.

“RURAL CRIME PREVENTION WORKSHOP”

“The aim was to provide information that would help people protect their property, their families and their community,” it says in todays paper, The Northland Age, Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

Short presentations from the police, Federated Farmers and FMG Insurance, and a panel discussion, are on the agenda. The meeting is tomorrow at the Kaitaia fire station starting at 11am.

I think the best information provided that helps to protect us from crime is found in the Bible.

We only need to read Exodus chapter twenty, where we find the ten commandments.

LEADERS

In Job 12:24 and 25 we read what the Lord does with leaders. (Three things)

a.  “He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason.”

b.  “he sends them wandering through a trackless waste.”

c.  “he makes them stagger like drunkards.”

“They grope in darkness with no light.”

Reading that I looked up the Devotional Treasury by Billy Graham called UNTO THE HILLS and what he writes on page 319 about PEACE. If you have the book please read what he says there.

“BOOK OF THE WEEK”

“Book of the week,” it says on the poster.

Whenever I pass the local book store I see the poster. I have done so several times lately without taking too much notice. But today I took notice. I have even noticed that the “Book of the week” is called “Art therapy.”

Reading the “Book of the week,” reminds me of “THE BOOK OF THE AGES”.

This is said about “THE BOOK OF THE AGES”:

THE BOOK OF THE AGES

THE BOOK OF THE AGES

a.  Psalm 119:89 “Your word, O LORD, is eternal, it stands fIrm in the heavens.”

b.  Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

c.  Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

d.  First Peter 1:25 “‘ … , but the word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.'”

The socalled book “Book of the week” is written by man and changes, but “THE BOOK OF THE AGES”  is written by God, the Holy Spirit and never changes.

That’s why The Bible, the Word of God, is called “THE BOOK OF THE AGES.”

“POSTPONED …”

We are dependent on the weather.

I noticed that again today when I was looking for the advertised event called “The Amazing Race,” on the old McDonald’s car park, Matthews Avenue, here in Kaitaia; but there was no activity whatsoever.

I had a fair idea why nobody was there.

Youth Week 2016 is celebrated at the present time here in our town, and “The Amazing Race” is for those who are 12-16 years of age. The advert says, “Stage Show, Spot prizes, Guest speakers, Sausage sizzle, Displays, activities and more …”

Walking along Commerce Street on my way home and looking into one of the shop windows I saw one of “The Amazing Race” posters, but diagonal across the poster was pasted:

“POSTPONED DUE TO SATURDAYS WEATHER FORECAST.”

We know that we are dependent on the weather, but do we also know that we are dependent on the Living God, who made heaven and earth?

"Ich bin durch die Welt gegangen und die Welt ist schoen und gross, ... "'- Eleonore von Reuss

God made heaven and earth

Only God is self-existent, we are dependent beings.

We cannot always depend on the weather forecast, but we can depend on the Living God.
