Soap, Soup and Salvation

I talked once about the Salvation Army with a lady from the Army and she mentioned three words, all starting with the letter ‘S’ – easy to remember – Soap, Soup and Salvation. (No more needs to be said about that!)

I remember the three words alright!

When entering the Salvation Army premises on the main street here in Kaitaia you are greeted like this:

“A Safe Haven in an Uncertain World.”

Do land agents (property managers) know something about the longings of our hearts? When I read how they sell properties I almost think they must know something….

Listen to this: “Paradise Hideaway.” And this: “Paradise awaits.” And this: “Your own Paradise, with options galore!”

By the way, there is a place here in New Zealand called Beach Haven and one property there is advertised like this: “Private Oasis found!!”

But I like this one best of all. Properties on Kawau Isaland are advertised like this: “A SAFE HAVEN IN AN UNCERTAIN WORLD.” We can discover there ten very special properties unique to the protected Island of Kawau.

Paradise, Private oasis, a safe haven in an uncertain world! There must be some kind of a longing in our hearts. Don’t you think so?

Are we longing to come HOME, to our maker?

I have a book in the German language written by a German pastor (Wilhelm Busch) who had a great youth work in Essen called “KOMM HEIM” (Come Home!). He is speaking on the Parable of the Lost Son in Luke 15:11-32. I went to his services in Essen from Bottrop. He is already with the Lord!

“…not just available from 9-5-….”

I always have and I am now again amazed at the commitment of business people. This time it is the commitment of the property managers. In their advertisement – with pictures – they are saying about themselves – and this is point number one, there are ten altogether – this: “We’re not just available from 9 to 5 – we’re here for you 24/7, inside and outside business hours.”

I am wondering if somebody has ever phoned them in the middle of the night?

Not long ago I read something about commitment in a church newsletter: “When you boil it all down marriage is three things: Commitment, Commitment and Commitment.”

Do you agree with that?

What about our commitment to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?

Can we say to the LORD: “Lord, I am not just available from 9 to 10 on a Sunday, I am here for you 24/7!!”

Today I met a man who can say: ” Lord, I am not just available from 9 to 10 on a Sunday, I am here for you 24/7!”

Today the headline of our local paper said: “Bright shining star farewelled.” The man I met today, is also a shining star in a depraved generation. Please read from the Bible Philippians 2:15. His face was shining!

“I love Waking up and going to Work.”

When I read some headlines and stories in the last two issues of the local paper, the NORTHERN NEWS, I came to the conclusion, that there was too much bad news in the paper, and I was thankful again for the GOOD NEWS as recorded in the Bible, the Word of the Living God.

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

But there was one sentence in one advertisement that took my attention and cheered me up tremendeously. Somebody said in the advertisement: “I love waking up and going to work.”

Do you love waking up in the morning and going to work? Or don’t you?

The BIBLE, the Word of the Living God (all 66 books) says in

Psalm 118:24:

“THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE; LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT.”

Praise the LORD!

“When an old person dies a Library burns to the Ground.”

I read this proverb in the local newspaper today:

“When an old person dies a library burns to the ground.”

Is that true?

What is your answer?library 011

Here is what I am going to answer:

I remember an outstanding BIBLE TEACHER, who taught me more about the WORD OF GOD than anyone else.

When he went to be with the Lord, I was thinking: ” When in old person dies a Library burns to the ground.”

But no – he is still speaking!
