“WHAT’S YOUR CHRISTMAS STORY?”

“WHAT’S YOUR CHRISTMAS STORY?”

“Every family has a Christmas story – … “

“These stories are incredibly important for our children, and as they grow they’ll treasure those memories and share them with their own families.”

I am reading that in a Paper Plus catalogue called “Once upon a Christmas …”  Paper Plus is a Book and Stationery store.

ONE MORE QUESTION FOR ME TO ANSWER!

You find my Christmas story in the Bible in the New Testament in the book called Luke. Please read the first part of chapter two. You find there the story about the Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the story about the Shepherds and the Angels.P1190925 300x225

Paul Gerhardt is a well known German hymn writer just as Martin Luther. He lived from  1607 to 1676. And this is what he says in one of the Christmas hymns he wrote in the first verse: I

AM STANDING AT YOUR MANGER, O LORD JESUS.

You are my life. I come  and bring and give everything you have given me. Take my spirit, my mind, my heart, my soul and my courage, and may everything be pleasing to you.

Paul Gerhardt wrote that Christmas hymn in the year 1736, when he was 29 years of age.

Everyone should be

1.  quick to listen,

2.  slow to speak and

3.   slow to become angry,

for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” – James 1:19

Are you looking for a Hiding Place?

“Discover our secret hiding place away from city life just a few minutes from the CBD and on the way to the airport.”

That says a Cornwall Park Restaurant  (Cornwall Park. Greenlane. Auckland) advertisement at the bottom of the front page. (Tourist Times, Oct/Nov 2012)

Are you looking for a Hiding Place?

Listen to what David says about God in Psalm 32:7. He says three things. He does not only say that the Lord is his hiding place , but that the Lord protects him also from trouble and that he is surrounding him with songs of deliverance.

Have you discovered David’s Hiding Place?

TRAINING CHILDREN

Not long ago I picked up a brochure from one of the banks here in town (ASB).

What I read in the pamphlet reminded me of a verse in the Bible, in the Old Testament.

The information in the booklet is all about training children to save money and the Headstart account is advertised.

The emphasis in the brochure is on two things. First of all to train children to save money from an early age and secondly to train them to save money regularly.

I really like that!

Readers who know their Bible will know by now that the verse in the Old Testament I am reminded of is Proverbs 22:6:

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

Titus 2:6-9; Titus 2:15

Intr.:

A.  “Similarly, encourage the young men

1.  to be self-controlled.

2.  In everything set them an example by doing what is good.

3. In your teaching show

a.  integrity,

b.  seriousness and

c.  soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

B.  Teach the slaves

1. to be subject to their masters in everything,

2.  to try to please them,

3.  not to talk back to them, and

4.  not to steal from them,

5.  but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.”

End:

These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
