FIRST

An invitation and a command.

First of all the invitation, which I find in our local paper on the front page at the bottom on the right (The Northland Age, Tuesday, May 27, 2014).

The BRIDGESTONE tyre centre here in Kaitaia advertises:

“Need tyres? See us first.”

The invitation reminds me of the command in the Bible, where the Lord Jesus Christ says:

“But seek first his KINGDOM and his RIGHTEOUSNESS, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).

HIS KINGDOM

The first goal of a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ is seeking the kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33

That means two things:

1. Conforming to the will of the Lord Jesus Christ.

First Thessalonians 4:3; Hebrews 10:7.

2. Recognizing the sovereignty of the Lord Jesus Christ over everything.

“The kingdom of God may be thought of as a world-wide family of God’s children who, under the Lordship of Christ, will attain everlasting  bliss.” (20th Century Bible Dictionary)

Revelation 5:9

HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

“In the New Testament God manifests His righteousness in his dealings with sinful men by His gracious actions through Christ to justify and save all who respond in faith to His redeeming work.” (20th Century Bible Dictionary)

If we don’t follow the invitation mentioned at the beginning we may lose a certain amount of money, but if we don’t follow the commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ we lose everything.

THREE QUESTIONS

"REVIVAL"

“REVIVAL”

Three questions and my answers:

1.Which book do you love the most?

The book I love the most is the BIBLE! Please read more posts on this blog to find out why.

2. Which book are you reading right now?

Right now I am reading two books.

One is called REVIVAL and is written by D. Martyn Lloyd – Jones.

The second is called THE BIBLICAL DOCTRINE OF HEAVEN and the writer of the book is Wilbur M. Smith.

3. Which book do you like to read next?

Books I like to read next are books by D Martyn Lloyd – Jones. Fortunately I still have a number of books by D Martyn Lloyd – Jones I have not read; for example seven volumes on ROMANS.

What is your answer to those three questions?

HEAVEN

"The Biblical Doctrine of Heaven"

“The Biblical Doctrine of Heaven”

HEAVEN has been on my mind and I have been looking and I am still looking for more information about heaven.

And yes, I read the Bible and I have also a few books about heaven in my library.

In one of the books about heaven the writer, a missionary and evangelist, says, that he has known the Lord Jesus Christ for 40 years. During that time he has been to many meetings and conferences and has listened to many important speakers, but he has never heard a sermon on heaven.

I am reading also that there are not many authoritative books on the subject of heaven available.

When have you heard your last sermon about heaven?

Last Friday and Saturday the Kaitaia Rotary Club sold books at rock bottom prices and now the book THE BIBLICAL DOCTRINE OF HEAVEN by Wilbur M. Smith is in my possession. Almost nothing was paid for the book.

(I want to say again that  my best books are bought second – hand)

“THE BIBLICAL DOCTRINE OF HEAVEN will take its place as the definitive study of heaven for this century,” It says about this book.

I am looking forward not only to read it but to study it.

All I can say now with the Psalmist:

“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

You read that in the Bible, in Psalm 37:4

AIM TO BE THE BEST

AT THE BEACH

AT THE BEACH

When I picked up the ‘litter’  from the footpath in front of our house today, I was holding a flyer in my hand. The wind must have blown the ‘flyer’ out of one of the letterboxes on our street. I don’t think it was our letterbox.

“More than 25 years with one aim: build the world’s best barbecues,” said the Beefeater barbecue advertisement – flyer – and when I read that I was more than interested.

I am still more than interested, because I am asking myself again:

“WHAT IS MY ONE AIM?”

My ONE AIM is to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ:

Yesterday I talked briefly with two Germans and gave them my business card. Hopefully they are checking out my blog.

My one aim to follow the Lord Jesus Christ started with my conversion in the year 1958 in Germany.

After three years Bible school also in Germany I applied  to a missionary society and worked in Thailand for 13 years. After doing more studies at a Bible College in Auckland / New Zealand during 1980 I worked as a missionary  in New Zealand from 1980 – 2004 in Kaitaia and Kaikohe in the Far North of New Zealand (United Maori Mission).

I say, “More than 60 years with one aim: To be the best follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
