At the Beach

Today, when experiencing some kindness of a stranger, I forgot my social conduct completely and I am still thinking about it.

I was told to buy a carrot from the market and when I arrived there I saw beautiful carrots packed in small bags. I don’t know how many carrots were in one bag. Asking whether it was possible to buy just one or two carrots, I was told that there was no problem.

But when I was told that I could have two big carrots without paying anything for them, I was completely blown away and I think I walked away saying, “You really don’t want any payment for them?” instead of remembering my manners.

When I see the owner of the stall again, I must say, “Thank you very, very much indeed for the two big carrots!”

Noticing a big handwritten note stuck to the front window of the coffee shop I was sitting in made me leave my seat and go and read it.

It was a response to the power outage coming Sunday from 8AM – 6PM. It was also good to be reminded again of the outage.

A one page public notice in our local paper tells us about the power outage:

There are actually two outages and we are also told how to prepare for them.

Power

The handwritten note stuck to the window of the coffee shop – and this is now from memory – is a notice from the food manager to the dear customers and says that the shop is open as usual for business on 1 February 2015 and that the power source will be a generator.

Are you also encouraged as I am, when you read the notice stuck to the window?

I am also reminded that God possesses all power.

SCHMETTERLING

“Keep our children safe”

Seeing two messages yesterday concerning our children, made me aware again, that there is a concern for the next generation.

I probably do not quote the messages as I saw them, because I depend on my memory.

The first message said that children are safer when you are sober.

I saw that written on the front of a shirt and the shirt was hanging in the shop of the Salvation Army here in Kaitaia. That was yesterday, and today it was gone. Someone must have bought it. I am glad about that.

The second message said that children have the right to live without violence.

That message was written on the back of a car, I saw parked not very far from our house.

And how we ought to be concerned for the next generation. The Bible says to tell the children of the deeds, the power and the wonders of the LORD. (Psalm 78:4)

But how can WE do that if WE don’t believe what the Bible teaches?
