The Tongue

“If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.” – James 3:2

"bits into the mouths of horses"

“bits into the mouths of horses”

“When we put  bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.” – James 3:3

"steered by a very small rudder"

“steered by a very small rudder”

“Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot wants to go.” – James 3:4

“Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.” – James 3:5

Cheerful Anticipation is Infectious

His kit was packed every morning. He was in cheerful anticipation. His cheerfulness was infectious. He was always hopeful. Whenever there was no ice on the water, he rolled up his sleeping bag. He told everybody else to do the same. He expected the boss, Ernest Shackleton, to rescue him and his men any day.

All that was said about the man, who was the leader of 21 men who were stranded on Elephant Island  in the Antarctic and expected that the rescue would take place in August.

I am reading that in the book SOUTH by Ernest Shackleton, in my edition on page 242.

I have been a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ now for a long time and reading all that reminds me of The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are reading about the prophecies of Christ’s Second Coming in the Bible, also about the purpose of Christ’s Coming, how He is Coming, where He is coming to, the manner of His Coming, and the signs of His Coming.

But we are not told the TIME of His Coming.

Only the Lord knows the time and it is a secret. Matthew 24:36 says, “‘But of that day and hour  knoweth no man, no, not the angels in heaven, but My Father only.'”

We remember what was said about the man, who was the leader of the men stranded on Elephant Island.

I am a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and what is said about me? Do people say, “That man is watching every day for the Second Coming of the Lord in cheerful anticipation? That man is waiting attentively every day for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and is infecting others?

“‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come,'” says our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:42.

FOUR, NOT THREE

There were only three people marching, but often it seemed to the writer that there were four.

I think I have come to the most important paragraph in the book SOUTH by Ernest Shackleton. In my edition page 230.

With his two companions, Worseley and Crean, Earnest Shackleton is on the march across South Georgia.

He felt often that there was another person, but he kept quiet about it. Later on Worseley said that he felt the same. And Crean confessed to it too.

People who know their Bibles remember the story of the Fiery Furnace in the book of Daniel. Please read the verses 24 + 25 in Chapter three of Daniel.
