“the next bucket full of gloom”

“If only the daily media and television were more in touch with the country’s manufacturers and showed genuine interest in what they were doing, rather than focusing their attention on where the next bucket of gloom is coming from.” –

Doug Green, Editor of “New Zealand Engeneering News”, August 2009

What, if they would show genuine interest in what the Lord is doing in this country and worldwide?

What, if they would show genuine interest in the GOSPEL, the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.

“Who to turn to when the going gets tough”

I believe today I saw for the first time the magazine called “OFF /CAMPUS” in the local library. It is “The Magazine of Massey University’s Extramural Students’ Society.”

The picture on the front cover and the writing on it interested me straight away. (Volume 14 Issue 3 August 2009)P1070457

In big print it says : “Tough people for tough times.” And in smaller print: “Who to turn to when the going gets tough.”

The students can turn to the advocacy groups especially during this time of recession. The adage WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING is also mentioned. But it says also that the tough ones of today need to know the system, in order to succeed. That’s where the advocacy groups come in with their help , because they are tough and also know the system.

“Who to turn to when the going gets tough.”

I turn to the LIVING GOD.

He is eternal, unchangeable, possesses all power, is present everywhere at one and the same time, has all knowledge, is holy, righteous, merciful, is love and he is faithful.

And more!

ARE YOU ALSO PRIVATISING YOUR OWN BELIEF?

This is how I remember the conversation:

Some more bad news was related to me. I responded with what I had read on a T – shirt some days previously, namely:

“It’s not that I forget, I just don’t care,” and that it seems that most of the people really don’t care. The other person agreed.P1070434

I mentioned also what I had read just now in one of the magazines in the waiting room. It said there that a well known personality thinks that are a couple of stars in the sky, that have helped him out in difficult and awful times. I continued to say that I believe rather in the Living God, who made all the stars.

But now I got the impression that our faith is rather a private thing.

A quote I had read recently came to my mind:

“One of the weaknesses of our modern church is how timid we are in expressing our faith. We are so concious of respecting the private beliefs of others that we end up privatising or own. Yet, if we truly believe that Christ is the centre of God’s purposes for all of creation, then our caution is ill founded.”

And what are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ to this:

Matthew 10:32,33

“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”

Very solemns Words!
