Almost 106 and still driving his car

Some time ago I was  told about a man living north from us who is more than 100 years old and still has his licence to drive a car.

And yes, I would like to meet that man.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014 was a special day for the  BNZ here in Kaitaia. Many ( bank representatives, customers and others) gathered to celebrate the bank’s centennial.

I arrived just in time for the cutting of the BNZ’s centennial cake.

And there was the man who has still his car licence sharing the cake-cutting role with another long-time customer.

The man with the licence is just about to celebrate his 106th birthday.

He is also the oldest person in New Zealand who is still driving!

It has always been my desire, my goal, to write a book and get it published – but so far it has not happened.

And reading again the discouraging experiences of another author, shows me, how hopeless the situation is.

I am told …

— that it is very difficult to make a lot of money, (not that that is my purpose in writing!) unless you are a well-known author.

— that in Germany alone over 100 000 books are printed each year (and that was some time ago!).

— that it is very difficult to find a publisher.

— that you contribute to the printing, if you find a publisher.

— that you get no commission for the first 1 000 books sold.

— that you might get after that 10% from the sales price of the book.

— that you have expenses instead of making money.

But now I have more than I asked for.

I am my own publisher and it is always a joy to click on “publish” and “update”.

CHANGING DIRECTION!

wernerweb-150x150“Do you want to change your direction in life?”

What a good question! I like to answer questions like that. But if you ask me that question right now, my answer is: “NO!”

(I find the above question on an advertisement of the Kaitaia Advance Training Centre.)

But the fact is that all of us must change direction in life.

Why?

Because from the time we are born, we are going into the wrong direction. We are on our way to hell.

In order to go into the right direction we must make a U-turn. When we are doing that, we are on our way to heaven.

We must turn from Sin to God. We must turn from Sin to God and serve Him. That is called repentance. What does repentance consist of?

The New Bible Dictionary (Inter Varsity Fellowship) teaches me that repentance consists of the following radical transformation:

1. thought,

2. attitude,

3. outlook,

4. direction.

The reason why my answer to the question “Do you want to change your direction in life?” is No is this:

I changed the direction in  my life more than 50 years ago and served the Lord from that time.
