Who can give us real HOPE?

I’m looking here at a small advertisement in the the local paper today. It’s all about the:

“Cancer Society

DAFFODIL DAY

with your help there is hope”

“WITH YOUR HELP THERE IS HOPE.

CANCER NORTHLAND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT THROUGH THE YEARS.”

Where is real hope?

Read Jeremiah 29:11 “…, plans to give you hope…”

“Local Body Elections”

“Postal voting in the 2010 local body elections opens on 17 September and closes on 9 October.”

At the present time you find pictures and views on topical issues of  Far North mayoral candidates in the local papers.

One mayoral candidate has listed five things he stands for. One of them is:

“NO MORE BROKEN PROMISES”

“No more broken promises.”

I am reminded of the promises in the Bible. There are many promises. And God does not break his promises.

Here is one of them:

Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and

when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze.”

“Nothing Beats a Good Book”

“Nothing beats a good book” is an article in the local paper today (Thursday, August 26, 2010) with a picture. In the article I read also about  the demonstration of “The power of the written (and well-read) word…”

It is all about celebrating Library Week!

I sort of  overlooked Library Week in spite of picking up a bookmark from last year in the library not long ago advertising Library Week. Library Week was last year from  10 -16th August. “Escape, Explore, Discover” is written on the bookmarker.

The reason for not taking much notice of Library Week is probably that I have Library Week every week. I am surrounded by books in our own house. I love books and I read everything I can get my hands on…….

I own many good books.

I looked up ‘Good Book’ in The Collins Concise Dictionary and it says there that ‘Good Book’  is a name for the Bible, the Word of the Living God.

And this is now my own experience:

For a long time the BIBLE was for me like any other book, but when I became a true follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, the BIBLE became alive for me. True followers of the Lord Jesus Christ have come out of darkness into light, from death into life.

The author of the BIBLE is the HOLY SPIRIT!

“THE BIBLE DOES NOT CONTAIN THE WORD OF GOD; THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD.”

“Feed Your Thirst.”

I’m just back from my lunch meal at Subway, where I read twice “FEED YOUR THIRST”. Subway is not very far from  our place. I am in the possession of a Super Gold  card, issued by the New Zealand Government, and I receive a free hot drink with my meal. If I remember correctly, a hot drink is $2.60.

It seems that people don’t need much encouragement to feed their thirst. They are eager to do so. People are even going so far, that they are abusing the refill policy and the owner has to put up a sign that says that there are no more refills available. That happened at the beginning of March this year here in Kaitaia.

Have you ever been thirsty? Coal miners, who are working for eight hours 800 metres under the earth can get very thirsty, if they forget to take a  bottle of water with them.

Have you ever been thirsty for God? Are you thirsty for God now? I am asking myself now the question. How thirsty am I for God?

The writer of Psalm 42 in the Bible is thirsty for God. He says so at the very beginning of his psalm. His own words are, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” (Psalm 42:1)  In the first verse of the same psalm he writes, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.” ( Psalm 42:1)

In verse two – Psalm 42:2 –  he cries out:

“WHEN CAN I GO AND MEET WITH GOD?”

WHAT IS OUR CRY?
