RESOLVE
“The best definition for ‘resolve’ I’ve ever heard came from a schoolgirl in Foster City, California.”
“A shy girl from the back of the room got up and said with quiet intensity, ‘I think resolve means promising yourself you will never give up’.” – Jim Rohn
What comes now to your mind?
The hymn “I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS,….” comes to my mind. It has four verses and here is the first verse:
“I have decided to follow Jesus,
I have decided to follow Jesus,
I have decided to follow Jesus;
NO TURNING BACK, NO TURNING BACK.”
RESOLVE
“Nothing can resist a human will that will stake even its existence on the extent of its purpose.” – Benjamin Disraeli
“When someone resolves to ‘do or die’ nothing can stop him” – Jim Rohn
Do you love the Lord Jesus Christ?
“And one of the most important ingredients of a balanced life is having someone to love and to love you.” – Jim Rohn
You probably know John 3:16 off by heart.
The Lord Jesus Christ loves you!
But do you love the Lord Jesus Christ?
Peace-lovers and peacemakers
“Jesus didn’t say, ‘Blessed are the peace-lovers.’ He says ‘peacemakers’. He is referring to a life vocation, not a hobby on the sidelines of life.” – Jim Wallis
GUIDES
There is only one thing you can do with bills, and that is pay them. Romans 13:8 “Let no debt remain outstanding,…” And the quicker, the better!
That’s exactly what I did today. I paid the tax on our house called rates at the local office of the Far North District Council. The office is a good place to pick up written information.
When I was sitting down and looked through the collected material, I was surprised about what I read again and again. Hard to believe, but there was the big Far North Guide with a good number of pages. Then there was the smaller booklet on which was written: “A candidate’s guide to local government”. Another booklet says: “Your Guide to the Environment Court”. Next: ” Your quick guide to recreational boating courses”. What next?” The Far North District Council Water Conservation Guide. In the guide it tells you how to conduct a basic water audit of your home. Six points!
Within a short time I had picked up five different guides. What a vast amount of information!
As you can well imagine, another guide came to my mind straight away, the Bible, the Word of the Living God. The Bible is the most important Guide for everybody. John 3:16 In Psalm 119:105 the psalmist says this: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
On my way back home from paying the bill, I bought one of the local papers, because I was interested in the headline which said “Storm lashes North”. Kaitaia is a town in the north of New Zealand.
And believe it or not, another guide was in my possesion; this time a bought one, a property guide! With other words six guides in one day! Actually seven, because I read my Bible this morning and I prayed to the Living God! I have the property guide here now before me and do you know what I am reading at the top of several pages? There it says: “Empowering people through property”.
True followers of the Lord Jesus Christ are empowered by
— Reading the Bible, the Word of the Living God and by
— Praying.
When I used to teach the Bible in the schools I told the children about the Old Testament and the New Testament and that the Bible is in fact a library with altogether 66 books, 39 books in the Old Testment and 27 in the New Testament.
Let me ask you a question. Do you believe that all Scripture is equally inspired (all 66 books) or that the Bible contains the Word of God? Let me quote here Second Timothy 3:16: “ALL Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching,…..” Read also Second Peter 1:21.
The true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ are empowered by reading the Bible, the Word of the Living God and by praying.
For me praying is talking with the Lord Jesus Christ everywhere and always about everything!
Let me close with what I read in the book “One Hundred Bible Lessons” by Alban Douglas.
“Our prayers should be directed to God the Father, Acts 12:5, in the name of Jesus Christ, John 14:13, through the power of the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 6:18.”
